Umbraco install stopping at step 2/5

    Good afternoon All,

I'm having issues with a shared hosting provider in installing Umbraco, All permissions seem ok & I have another site running on this provider.

    Issue Details:

    • Install kicks off ok
    • Step 1/5 Licence - no problems
    • Step 2/5 Database Configuration - Click next & page simply refreshes to original settings - obviously not updating the config file.

does anyone know why this may be?

    Thanks

Sounds like a matter of permissions to me.

Don't you get a message that tells you so?

Well, anyway...dependant on the environment you are installing Umbraco on you should set write permissions for the ASP.NET user (Win XP) or Network Service (Windows 7). And I also IUSR I think.

Then you should be able to progress with the installation.

    Hope this helps.

    /Jan

No, it just refreshes - no messages whatsoever. All permissions are correct, I've already rechecked them all again.

    Quite odd.

    Hi,

Seems to me there is something wrong with your Connectionstring or database account . Had the same experience a few times. The error message is really small.

    Cheers,

    Richard

    Got it sorted,

For some reason with the shared hosting set up, the install process went to the wrong location to search for files to modify, a tad odd. As soon as I gave it a solid domain name, rather than a temporary URL, all installed as it should.

Haven't come across that one before, but never mind, all fixed now.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.
