    so, here we go!

i'm discover Umbraco feel days ago, because i was looking for a cms to start some website developing and for easy manage for third parts. so, i make download of the 2 versions of umbraco to test de diferences, make a local install, testing starter kits and skins and love all of them. After that i'm starting to see the admin section, the content tab, developer, setting, media, etc. At this point i lose my self... i dont know how to add a new page, or edit the starter skins or manage tempaltes and i don't find a complete tutorial, that learns since the begining...

im not a designer, so i need to work using a existing template. I'm just know some thing about html5 and css3, but i don't make the photoshop images and creative things.

Can anyone help me with a beginer tutorial, or anything that I can learn the basics please.

I need a simple skin for business, and how to edit and work in the admin area...

Well... if you don't understand what I wrote, please tell me, and I'll try to explain better.

    Thanks

Hi Guilherme, and welcome to Our,

A good starting tutorial, could be having an Umbraco installation when it is empty and another Umbraco installation where you install a starter kit and learn from there. However, I must mention that I'm actually not completely aware about starterkits works for the new versions of Umbraco. I refer to 6.0.5 and 4.11.8.

If you do not have success with that install a starter kit, another super good option is to look these videos through http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/introduction-to-umbraco.aspx

In these videos above they show the basic stuff how to work with Umbraco, such as how to a new page types (Document types), how to create new tempates how to add dynamic content such as menues, news list and so on. And how to make a good site structure (Assign the types of pages can be created under specific page types). These things is agin happen on the document type.

When you have seen the movies you will find out that the document type in the Umbraco CMS is a very central part of the CMS.

There is different ways to get data out of Umbraco. One is by written some XSLT to trasform the xml data, and another is getting the data by using Razor. Razor is a relatively new method in Umbraco to get data out. (From Umbraco 4.7)

If you choose to see the XSLT part of the link above, You must keep in mind that they show the old xslt syntax for the old XML schema. The new XML schema introduced in Umbraco 4.5. In the link below you can see the differences between the new and the old schema.

    http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/reference/xslt/45-xml-schema and http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/reference/xslt/45-xml-schema/xslt-examples-updated-to-new-schema

And here is some videos about XSLT and the new XML schema, but you have to sign up for full access to Umbraco TV to see the videos in full-length, but I can definitely recommend that.

If you choose to get data from umbraco by using Razor I think that these resources could be useful.

    http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/umbraco-fundamentals/razor.aspx

    http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/umbraco-fundamentals/razor-recipes.aspx

And the people behind Umbraco is now redesigning the Umbraco TV, and there is a lot of video about how to get data from Umbraco using Razor. Umbraco is now focus on Razor to get data the Umbraco CMS, but XSLT is still there as an opportunity. But the new Umbraco is still in Beta http://beta.umbraco.tv/

I hope this can help you get started with Umbraco, and makes sense.

    Happy Umbraco coding.

    /Dennis
