Installing UmbracoCms.4.11.10 on 1and1 shared hosting
Hi All,
I am trying to install UmbracoCms.4.11.10 on my 1and1 shared hosting package. 1and1 says they support it but I have read posts that have indicated they do not support the newer versions. I would like to try to get this version up and running so i dont have to pay for a dedicated server.
You can see my current error at this url. I am using the out of box files from the umbraco site, clean fresh install. So the webconfig has not been tampered with.
Version 4.11.10 on the 4 branch is an updated version of Umbraco but it's not as "new" as the 6.x path - so if they 'did' support Umbraco, then 4.11.10 would be your best bet.
It's hard to remotely diagnose problems but that message simply says that you can't declare the <httpprotocol> section as it is already declared.
It may alreadt be declared if you've put the site inside another site instance, that already has a web.config - or it could be the generic .NET installation configuration which is disallowing this.
Try commenting out the section and see what message you get? It may be another error that is similar, causing you to comment out another section.
Have you raised a ticket with 1&1 to ask them to define whether they support Umbraco?
Thanks for responding. I commented out that section and got a new error. I spoke with 1and1 and they said that they support umbraco based on its requirements but when the tech tried to resolve my issues from the newest version, he finally said that he thinks I should just get a VPS server and run it from there.
I would be very interested in hearing if and how you get on with a VPS from 1and1. I really like the look of Umbraco but Im worried about hosting and the cost of it. 1and1's VPS is only £10 per month, which is not too bad. Anybody with any advice, Id like to hear it.
