Performance using MySQL or MSSQL/MSSQL CE Umbraco 7

    Hi! :)

I'm going to create a website and use Umbraco 7 as CMS, at my hosting they gave me an MySQL DB when i signed up, and the possibility to buy an MSSQL DB, it's not going to use any fancy extensions, because it's a simple site for my fathers kennel.

I think right now the reqirements are:

An easy mode to change language (Danish primary, English, German)

    Responsive (Bootstrap 3)

Google Analytics (Does not need to be in the CMS)

    --

What DB type would you choose, when i say it costs me 17,25 EUR to get the MSSQL DB and then 1,15 EUR a month to get it..

Before i have used an CE DB, but i'm not sure if it's good enough for this site.

    Hi, Anders.

If you say it's going to be a simple site, probably with not much visitors (not millions per day, probably not even thousands), then I'd say there's no need to buy MSSQL at all. It's, like, only difference from mssql express is no 10GB limit for the database. If you are on shared hosting and can't install sqlexpress, then CE should be pretty good too. I don't have numbers for it, but whenever I used it, I just saw no difference from MSSQL.

I've just wrote a blogpost about Umbraco 7 performance. It may contain some numbers you are looking for.

Does Umbraco support MySQL? If it does, use MySQL.
