I've had some problems using the platform installer fx on XP - so I'm a little unhappy using it in a production environment, but just wanted to hear what everybody else does :)
Used WebPI several times on a Win2008 box, no problems at all.
I usually create the website in IIS manager first (after creating a folder for the site), then create the database and assign a user for it. When that's ready I start the WebPI install from within IIS manager.
Best practice regarding ms server2008
Hey
What is the best way to install umbraco on MS server 2008?
Using the http://www.iis.net/webpi platform or installing manually like with ms server 2003?
Is there any issues using the platform installer? Performance, bugs etc?
Thanks
/DHD
Personally I always install Umbraco manually, but that's out of habit as the installer is a relatively new thing.
I have the install down to about 2/3 mins, not sure how long it takes with the platform installer.
Really doubt Umbraco will perform any differently with a manual or web platform install.
Guess it's just up to preference?

I just do a manual install - i guess im pretty much old school rather than use a Web installer. And Im running mine of Server 2008 as well
I had problems in the past using the web installer on WinXP but on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server it seems to work perfectly every time.
Cheers,
Chris
