I'm about to perform an upgrade (my first!) from 7.1.3 to 7.2.8.
The solution I have inherited is a .Net solution developed in Visual Studio, with Umbraco bolted on. In the upgrade documentation, under 'Copying Files', it says to copy the contents of '/bin' to your site. Does this mean to the deployed website that runs under IIS? And if so, surely everytime I make a change to my solution and redeploy, the /bin folder will get overwritten anyway?
'Copying Files', it says to copy the contents of '/bin' to your site. It means that you download the latest version of Umbraco from here: https://our.umbraco.org/download.
Then unzip the file and copy over the bin files from that installation to yours.
Help upgrading from 7.1.3 to 7.2.8
Hi,

Any clarification welcome!
Thanks, Andy
Hi Andy,
If you have your solution in VS, then try to see the upgrading documentation where you use NuGet. I think it will be a easier way to do it for you.
You can find the NuGet section in the middle of this page. https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/installation/upgrading/general
'Copying Files', it says to copy the contents of '/bin' to your site. It means that you download the latest version of Umbraco from here: https://our.umbraco.org/download.
Then unzip the file and copy over the bin files from that installation to yours.
Hope this helps,
/Dennis
Thanks Dennis.
I'm new to NuGet as well - I've just opened the package manager - do I simply click 'Install'? (Obviously I will take a backup first)
Thanks again,
Andy
Hi Andy,
I was re-thinking if I remember right then the NuGet update is only able from 7.2 and forward. http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2014/11/17/help-test-nuget-upgrades
So you have to do the upgrade manually following the steps on this page.
