I'm a web developer and actually looking for a CMS that we can use for our company. I've already installed umbraco but i'm still at lost on how do I start converting our existing design to umbraco. I wanted to use umbraco because I can customize it using .NET.
It is also possible to use our existing design as a template?
That is definitely possible, all it really takes is taking the flat html pages of your site (I am assuming you have a few different layouts, just use the html of each of those pages) and put them in a masterpage.
Then you can start replacing dynamic content by either umbraco fields or macro's (user controls, xslt, ironpython..).
It IS a steep learning curve and I probably started lower down the slope! But I'm getting there and I would definitely endorse 'watch the videos'. I've only watched the freebies so far (is the sound deliberately too low to hear properly!!!?) but they do help. And the guys on this forum are pleased to help too.
I'm thinking of what version should our company purchase. Can you also help me decide? I read in the products page that each license is for single IIS site. what do you mean by that? because of course once we purchase it we wanted to deploy our site to several server. Does it mean I need multiple license for it?
I have news for you: Umbraco is free to use as you see fit under the MIT license.
If you want to buy pro support then it will indeed be for one site only, it will of course be for any of your environments and servers, just the single site though.
Help where do I start
Hello to everyone.
I'm a web developer and actually looking for a CMS that we can use for our company. I've already installed umbraco but i'm still at lost on how do I start converting our existing design to umbraco. I wanted to use umbraco because I can customize it using .NET.

Make sure to watch the nine free starter video's for site builders and developers!
I would also suggest installing a clean Umbraco site and install the Creative Website Starter package http://our.umbraco.org/projects/starter-kits/creative-website-starter-(cws) and have a look around how this is built for some ideas.
It's a steep learning curve, but stick with it and it'll be worthwhile.
