Links on the home page - newbie question

I have just set up my site (www.pavelstravels.org) and I want to have a link that opens in a new window. I typed in the URL for the link, and saved it. I then went into the HTML and changed the reference. In the preview, it looks fine, but the published version ignores the revised html. This is my first day with Umbraco, and I am trying to get my charity fund-raising site up this weekend, so any help would be appreciated.

here is the html on my home page

    <p>Welcome to Pavel's Travels</p>
<p>I'm Pavel, and I'm riding a motorcycle across Canada to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. I'll be the youngest person to ever ride across Canada (I turned 16 on June 11).</p>
<p>Doctors Without Borders is a great cause. You can donate directly:</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p><a href="http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=1266602" target="_blank">Click Here</a></p>
    <p> </p>
    <p><img src="/media/260/tripmap.png" alt="Trip Map" width="498" height="139" rel="803,224" /></p>
    <p><img src="/media/237/klr650.png" alt="Me" width="499" height="485" rel="928,902" /></p>

    The home page shows this:

Hi there and welcome to the community :)

When you create the link in the rich text editor, don't you get an option to mark it as a target that needs to open in a new window? This should be a part of the options in the link options.
