    I installed Umbraco. What's next?

I installed Umbraco with Runway on my local PC. Now I'm looking at the Umbraco admin page.

    What do I do now?
What are the basic concepts I need to read about now?
    How do I add/edit pages?
What is the URL to view my site?

I haven't found this kind of "newbie" level info so far on the umbraco.org site. Please direct me to it if it exists.

I've looked at that site and the wiki too. I see articles on specific topics but not anything like a general "Getting Started Guide for Site Creators and Administrators", which is what I was hoping for.

During installation you should have setup an IIS site. Assuming you didn't change the port and you didn't add a host headedr (binding), you stie should be accessible when going to:

    http://localhost/

Now, if you haven't created any "pages" yet, then this page will be blank (simple white screen). You best bet, is to install the Creative Web Starter package to get an idea of how to work with document types, templates, media and other "basic" features. This package contains a VERY detailed document on how to install and the purpose of CWS. Many of us have that blank stare when first installing Umbraco and this is going to be your "eye-opener".

    Some more tips:

    - Admin URL: http://yoursite.local/umbraco/umbraco.aspx
    - There are some free getting started vids on Umbraco.tv as well. Be sure to check them out. Also, subscription to .tv are not expensive and I think you'd find it well worth the money.

Other than that, keep posting questions on the forum and you'll get all the answers you need.

    Cheers,
    Nik

I installed Runway. Any problem with installing CWS now too?

Well, installing both will undoubtedly create dupes in your document types (wherever property name are the same). Plus, you'll end up with multiple templates and content root nodes. If you have Runway you can go from there too. It also sets up your basic site structure and shows how you might work with templates, css, doc types, etc. You can always un-install Runway if you would prefer to take a look at CWS.
