    Umbraco Benelux Meetup

    Umbraco Benelux Meetup

To all Umbraco enthusiastics located in the Benelux. The wonderful Codegarden 09 is just behind us and during Codegarden 09 I talked to several people about setting up a new Umbraco Benelux Meetup. Please reply to this topic if you are interested and would like to attend this meetup.

    Date & Time

Needs to be scheduled. October seems nice, not too close to Codegarden 09 and after the holidays.

    Location

I need to check this, but I think I can arrange a location. The "Van Nelle ontwerpfabriek". I work at ISM eCompany and we are located in this great building.
The Van Nelle ontwerpfabriek has the status of a nationally protected monument and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. More information can be found over here: http://www.ontwerpfabriek.nl/index.asp?pageid=259a31f7b82841bc9744b474b072fb66

    Address:
    Van Nelleweg 1
    3044 BC  Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

    Agenda

needs to be determined, suggestions are welcome of course.

    Roel, Sebastiaan,

I'm really excited again to see so many interest in another Benelux user group meetup, but.... there's been rumours as well about organizing another meetup in Belgium (most probably Antwerp) aiming for end of August, thus having 2 different options for a next meetup, either end of August in Antwerp (BE), yet to confirm and another one in October, in Rotterdam (NL).

Let's spread the word and ask the umbraco community members about time and place...

Ooooh, can I give negative points on that first post of yours Dirk? Can I, Can I? :p

My favorite is August, place doesn't really matter (no time in october, harvest-time)

    Cheers,

I think that we need to stick with the plan to have 2 meetups each year, 1 in Belgium and 1 in the Netherlands. It would not be fair to call it a Benelux Usergroup and only have meetups in the Netherlands. Maybe we can set the Van Nelle option on hold and have the next Meetup in the Netherlands over there?

    Cheers,

    Richard

@Dirk Antwerp would be nice too, just wanted to keep the idea alive :) Anyway I'm willing to set something up in Rotterdam sometime. If the next meeting will be in Antwerp I will attend if my schedule allows to.

@Roel: probably same problem as with the uk people, we need a confirmed date/location before people start commiting to attend.

I'll be in contact with a few guys from Belgium to find out where and when we can organize the next meetup. I'll get back in here as soon as I've got more info on this.

    Cheers,

    Dirk

Count me in! For me August is a bit to soon and also holiday time. I would prefer September or October.

What i really like about codegarden are all the open space meetings. Maybe we can include such a way of sharing in the next Benelux-meetup? The last time in Amsterdam was mostly focused on presenting and listening, as well as the meetup in Gent last year. Although I did like everything that was shown, I think it wil be more interesing to have more time to meet, share, discuss in small groups, etc.

@Martijn: I agree about the open space format, it will be more user centric than it has been before. And it would be much nicer to get formal feedback in group.

I'm still awaiting answer to find out whether we can have a wonderful location in Antwerp. Hoping to get feedback asap.

I'm in for August as Sept and certainly Oct is a no go for me (altho I'm not required to be there ;)

Anyways, just keep an eye on this thread and hopefully next week, we can have some progress!

    Cheers,

    /Dirk

    Count me in as well!

No spefic preference location-wise, though the Van Nelle Fabriek is IMO one of the most beautifull buildings from the Bauhaus period worldwide...

Belgian location has not been confirmed indeed, and the guys from Promex will be looking for alternatives, but that search will only start by Sept, meaning that next meetup will probably be organised in Netherlands, and hopefully we can take over next time.

So, guys, let the creativty flow and have a meetup scheduled!

@Roel, @Richard (and other Dutch fellow umbracians of course): I'm sure you guys will do great job organizing the event. Can you take the lead? Others are welcome to join of course!

I will offer any help I can, altho not sure whether I will be able to attend.

    Cheers,

    /Dirk

    Replied to survey!

Would like to see if we can arrange a tour through our beautiful building. I keep enjoying the tours we do each year.

Other than that, maybe we can ask Frans Bauer to perform, he's almost as much fun as Ole.

    Update:

    - 20 people responded to the Umbraco Benelux (Q3/Q4 2009) survey.
    - 21 people are on the attendees list currently.
    - we might have Umbraco core members attending the meetup.
    - 55% would like to meet in October and 35% in September.
    - most people would like to meet up during the weekend.
    - most people  would like the meetup to be an all day event.
    - 5 people said they'd be interested in doing a presentation.
    - 1 person would like to do Umbraco Bingo :)

This week I'm going to prepare an e-mail which Niels will send to all the Umbraco Benelux people that are in his file.
