    I can't sort a folder by name.

I need to sort a folder alphabetically but when I click on 'Name' nothing happens. I can sort by creation date and sort number though...

    Any ideas?

Naming format of pages = 'PA 2010-02-11 The Pensions Regulator gets tough on record keeping'

    Thank you

    Hi guys

Have you checked http://umbraco.codeplex.com/ issue tracker to see if this has been reported as a bug?

@Margin: Are you using the same version as the one Carine is mentioning?

    /Jan

    Hi Jan

Indeed yes, in fact its the same build (just realised Carine is from our agency). So much for them telling the customer!

Our content editors need this functionality, manual sorting becomes tedious with a lot of nodes!

I already looked on codeplex, not found anything obvious.

I'm going to check a base build of 4.0.4.2 with runway and see if its still a problem and maybe 4.5.2

If anyone else knows a quick fix please let me know!

    Many thanks

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

This post was from 6 months ago when I could not get the news items sorted alphabetically on the staging site - I remember finding no solution online but also found that by manually moving the top item to another position in the list (by dragging), saving, then opening the sort window again to order by name, it seemed to work.

I've actually just logged into the staging site to have a quick look but the sort by name function works perfectly fine now?

    Thanks,

    Carine

    Hi Carine

It's does indeed appear to do something on the 2010 folder, but when you look at what it's doing it's just moving the bottom item (40) to the top of the list! Not much use at al!

I'll let you know what I find from my investigations!

    Hi Martin,

I've just looked on both our dev and staging site and all the news and publications can be sorted alphabetically fine.

Could it be the way the items are named on your live site? I really remember finding a weird solution to this once but then by the next day the sort by name function had only began to work again so I didn't have to deal with it again.

I think it was something amongst the line of: dragging the top item right to the bottom. Clicking save. Opening the sort window again. Sort by name, click save and it should work. (The bottom item would still stay at the bottom rather than reorder itself to the top but then you could manually move that one back to top. I suppose its easier to have to just move one rather than all of them).

I can't remember exactly how it worked and cannot replicate the problem to try and re-discover the strange solution for you.

    Thanks,

    Carine
