All of the these sub content areas have been created by copying the "en" tree which was the initial content item created (and there are a lot of files under it). When I change a user's permissions on several items at once: en, fr, es, etc. the site hangs by just showing the progress bar indefinitely. When I modify them one at a time, some of them save almost instantaneously and some of them hang.
I'm not certain how to determine whether this is a bug in umbraco or a bug in the data.
One other item to note: when making copies of the content, it throws a timeout so copying the content tree doesn't work correctly either. I wonder if since the copy is incomplete that the data is messed up so it is causing the permissions to not work correctly. Still it seems there should be some feedback in the UI to let me know what is happening.
Modify user permissions hangs with no errors
The site is 4.0.2.1.
Site structure is:
Content -
|-- Lang
|---- en
|---- fr
|---- es
etc. etc.
