I installed a the business starterkit. Then i created a new template "Textpage" under my new master. The name was excactly written the same as an already existing template.
Seemed to me that umbraco had problems handling this. The masterpages (physical on disk) where mixing the content.
As it was a clean install, I removed it and "reinstalled". But I never noticed that
This is an issue and I've seen it happen a few times, not sure if it's reported on codeplex?
It's an avoidable bug at least, and if you have created a duplicate template you can successfully delete it by changing its alias (so it's no longer a duplicate) and then deleting.
Deleting a template node was not possible either, we didn't tried your proposed solution by changing it's alias. Got to remember that for the next time.
