Do you by any chance know if your company have some special settings for IE, which could be the cause of this behaviour? And what version of IE are you using? And how do you experience the error...does it dive you any errors in the browser or maybe scripting errors? (Which you can see in the lower left corner, if there is a little yellow icon)
I have just tried using the "move" function in IE8, which did work very well. Therefore I don't think this is a bug and I'm positive that many other people would have had the same problem and filed a work item on codeplex if it was :-)
It opens up the Move pop-up window and shows you the Content Tree, but when you expand the Content Tree it opens beyond the boundaries of box its in and when you select where you want to move the page and click OK, nothing happens.
I just tried to move a node using IE8 in compatibility view, which renders as IE7 and I had no problem using the move function.
Have you tried logging in to the Umbraco backoffice from a machine at home or somewhere with IE7, where it has not been setup by the administrators at work? If so, does the error still occur?
Yes, that makes sense since what you are just doing is accessing your work machine from home. This is not how I meant it :-)
Is the site available to the public or is it an intranet? If it's publicly available you should be able to login the umbraco back office by just visiting the site in IE7 from your own machine (No VPN).
No, I didn't access my work machine. That would require me to remote into my work computer after VPNing into the network.
I needed to access the network since the server is internal and not public. Once on the network, I used my home machine (as in owned by me, not the place I work) to navigate to the site and experienced the same problem.
We have some running under 4.5.2 that do not have this problem. Another was upgraded from 4.5.2 to 4.6.1 and in that one I cannot move files using IE 7. That's why I assumed it was a bug in the upgrade.
Unable to Move Pages in Content Tree using IE (4.6)
I just upgraded to Umbraco 4.6 and noticed a bug.
If you are using Internet Explorer it won't let you move pages with the content tree, but it works fine in Firefox.
Unfortunately the place I work is standardized on IE and very few users have admin rights to their machines to install any other browser.
Can this be fixed?

I'm using IE 7. There are no special settings.

I just VPN'd to our network and using IE 7 from home experienced the same problem.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Jennifer
Ah, sorry my bad :-)
Hmm, that's weird...
I guess you don't have access to other sites running Umbraco? Could be interesting to see if you encounter the same problem on another site.
If you don't have access to ohter sites, fortunately the cogworks has a demo site, where you can try to see if you get the same error. http://demo.thecogworks.co.uk/umbraco/login.aspx
This is a 4.5.2 install though - but interesting to see if you get the error here as well.
