Solution to editing umbracoSettings.config causing Server Error in '/' Application
For future reference:
When editing the umbracoSettings.config make sure that it is being saved with UTF-8 encoding. I edited it in WinSCP wich apparently saved it with ANSI encoding wich caused the file to get locked (unable to change it) and the whole site went down.
I think restarting the application in IIS is what unlocked the file so that I could overwrite it with an original copy.
