There is a "High five!" button to the right of the post, which is the "Vote" button? Is it that one you're looking for? :) The big yellow box with a zero in it.
If it's the mark as solution link you're looking for it's placed somewhere near the avatar.
Yeah the tick is only available to the topic starter. Otherwise it would also be a bit weird if another person could decide what the solution should be. Unless you're an admin being able to solve a post if the solution has been provided but the original poster is not active on the forum anymore for instance.

I've been burried in code for a month or two, so i might have missed something? but i don't see the vote buttons on forum posts anymore?
has it gone or am i broken?
I think there use to be something in this gap ?
