Problem with missing Node in Content Tree Urgent Help Needed!
This is affecting a live 4.0.2.1 website. I've tried upgrading to 4.0.3 and it doesn't fix this problem and introduces some others in regard to the site Blog so a simple upgrade isn't an answer.
I have a case studies section of my site and a few days ago the client reported that some nodes had disappeared. When I looked they're not in the content tree, neither are they in the recycle bin. However, they still apear to be published and I can find them in the /data/umbraco.config file. Here's an example file:
But node 1547 is nowhere to be found in the backend.
I've tried republishing the whole site. I've tried removing umbraco.config and republishing. Nothing happened for either.
I tried creating a new node with the same name as the old invisible node, all that happens is a new node appears in umbraco.config, and the original is still displayed.

Whatever is going on (and something weird is definitely going on) you have every potential of it getting worse as you do its getting better. Know what I mean, my friend? Backup up the site now. Okay? Okay. 'nuff said.
Now, what the heck is going on with your site?
I saw something like this once and it ultimately had to do with being a messed up database (my fault, though I thought I was being REALLY careful). But maybe a simple solution will help...
Unpublish the offending page. Then publish it afresh. You might also want to unpublish & then publish the parent page as well, just to be sure. I've found this sometimes clears out 'weirdness'.
I have just come across exactly the same issue. The website is updated with a great deal of content on a regular basis so going back to a backed up version would be a last resort especially since the client has just notified us about this and I think it has been happening all week. Is there anything else I can try to resolve this. I have tried unpublishing the child node with no luck.

It can be found in Umbraco.config see....

OK interesting behvaviour if I resort the nodes so that both 1548 and 1638 have different sortOrders the newer page appears under the correct url
But 1548 still appears in umbraco.config even though it can't be seen in the backend content tree AT ALL.
First thing... BACKUPS!

Let us know what you find out.
cheers,

BTW to be clear of Doug's advice it was unpublish / publish the PARENT node that fixed things.

I know this is an old thread, but since no one has posted a solution to this, I'll post mine for anyone that will come searching for an answer here.
So if you find a node missing from your admin panel, but it is still available in the front-end:
1. Go to admin panel
2. In the top-left corner Search for the name of your node.
3. Navigate to it in the search results and it'll open up in the admin panl.
4. Properties tab -> Unpublish -> Save -> Save and Publish -> Reload content nodes.
That's what I did to make it show up again. Hope it works for you.
Cheers,
Alex
