"I get this
message after signing in or out from the homepage only (root page
http://sitename/) I am using directory URLs. Refreshing
the page after this error loads the page correctly."
I'm using 4.0.2.1.
Has this problem been resolved yet or are there any other solutions that don't require modifying the login control?
This is a very old thread so apologies but thought I should update this as I had exactly the same issue today and can't find any documentation of the fix that worked in my case.
Same as the old forum thread, homepage worked fine when logged out but not after logging in, big "Object moved here" message at the top of a blank page.
I checked the hostnames in the content section and realised one of my current domains had a / at the end. I removed that and, hey presto, back to normal!
Again, sorry for digging up this fossil but thought it might help someone in the future.
"Object moved to here" error on sign in or out using membership package
I found the exact problem I'm having on the old forum: http://forum.umbraco.org/yaf_postst2577_Object-moved-to-here-error-on-sign-in-or-out-using-membership-package.aspx

Hi Craig
I think you should use the ASP.NET control instead of the member-ship package, which is outdated.
In your template you can use <asp:Login /> in your template instead.
You can read more about, which attributes can be used in here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178331.aspx
Hope this helps.
