Checkbox below search bar disappear after clicking

If you want to deselect 2 then you have to first click inside the search textbox again.

    More user friendly to:

    1. keep it visible after click (in fact during the complete interaction)
    2. refocus search textbox after CLICK
    3. allow tabbing from search textbox FIRST to checkboxes and THEN to search button
    4. don't refocus search text box when space is used to check/uncheck (since then a user is not using the mouse, so it wouldn't be helpful).

This has been bugging me for ages.

I suspect you are talking about this site's search (in case that wasn't clear to anyone).

However I don't think I agree with point 2 - why refocus at all in this situation?

The extra options show as soon as the textbox receives focus, after selecting an option with the mouse the textbox should get focus again so you can start typing as you were planning to.

If there's doubt it should be tested in different configurations with users to find out what the best option is.
