    Projects Page: Improvements

    Hi,

I think the (very successful) projects page needs a face lift. I'd like to see the following features added

    • View counts: It's important that community members know the amount traffic going to their project page (or wiki post). Ratings work well, but aren't always used.
    • Download count: Same reasons as above
    • Categorisation: There are a lot of projects now, maybe we could group them into different categories (although I don't know what the categories would be!)
    • Updated dates: Projects may be updated, but the standard browsing user has know way of knowing. An RSS feed for project updates (not just new projects) would be good.
    • Sorting: Allow users to sort projects based on view count, updated date, rating, etc.

    Any other suggetions?

'app store'-style, I guess.  A logical end-point would be allowing developers of commercial packages to sell straight from the packages page.

Not sure that view count is important to the user, but if it was available to project owners it may be helpful. download count can be useful for sure.

Aside from your list, I think compatibility is important: which version of umbraco has this been tested on?

    Great suggestions, Chris!

In regards to "app store" concept, we'll never add an app store / commercial offerings to Our - it wouldn't fit in. However, we do monitor the Umbraco Store project to see if it'll lift off as it'll hopefully be a great way to expose commercial packages for 3rd party vendors.

just thinking... package updates should be encouraged.

Packages that have been around for a while usually get higher karma ratings, which is good, but package updates (new versions, bug fixes) should be encouraged too.

Maybe as a small change we could see 2 new project listings; one for 'Last Updated' packages and another for 'Highest rated'.

I keep track of new packages via RSS... but I have no idea if the original packages have been improved.
