I wonder if the voting-functionality for forum replies, packages etc. on our.#umbraco should be explained or somehow emphasized or advertised differently to all users of our?
Briefly looking through the voters of some of the most popular downloaded packages just reveals the gang of usual suspects. It's always nice to get a pad on the back from your friends, but it would even more useful if all users actually considered the functionality e.g. when downloading a package.
I did not perform a complete analysis of all votings, and I guess it's primarily an issue with packages, but anyway, it was just a thought.
i would guess you see the usual suspects because we all use each other's stuff :) but that would just be my guess.
and definitely, when you see me voting packages up, it's because i use them as a complete solution or a GREAT starting point to a solution that i typically use on a paying job...
so if i can throw a thumbs up for a package that helps me get paid... by golly, i will do it :)
oh, wait... i think i see your point/question now... you are wondering if voting needs to be better advertised... i would say that shouting about the feature could not hurt at all..
so, thumbs up to you for mentioning how we need to promote voting so EVERYONE takes part, not just the ususal suspects :P
Bob, thats exactly my point - I was wondering if voting should be promoted somehow differently, or maybe accessible in some other way to actually get awareness from everyone using the packages.
I agree my project has been downloaded over 130 times but has only received 7 votes in either direction, all from the usual suspects.
I'm not sure it's all together clear what the voting is for and there seems to be little encouragement for it. Perhaps on download of a project users could be reminded to vote for the project if they like it or vote against it if it's no good or doesn't work!
Is voting a public secret?
