The tag cloud functionality is great. But there's soo many tags that you don't use. I suggest only showing the most popular and adding an option of showing all.
Optimize newest projects listing
Sometimes ppl create empty projects for projects in progress or the likes. I think it's noise and the list should only contain projects with releases. And maybe it should somhow be emphazied (wonder how that is really spelled :-) that you use this area to publish your releases.
Download counter
The download counter text tells us that a project has been download x number of times "since september 8th". This was when the counter was introduced but it's somehow misleading for all later releases. :-)
Happy new year.
Jesper
ps. I'm ready to help out adding any of the above changes.
Agreed, I find it tag list a bit overwhelming. Maybe if I could filter with few main categories like "Datatype, Starter-Kit, Data provider, Mashup..." not sure if it would help(?)
Perhaps with Download Counter we could have 1-5 star rating on the product displaying number of downloads and ratings.
I actually like the tag cloud, it's cool, maybe there should be a higher maximum size and a slightly lower minimum size though.
New projects: totally agree! If the project has no release files, then it should not be in the list. If you want to start a discussion on how to tackle a new project, that's what the forum is for. Empty projects are just useless right now.
The download counter is okay, and as it only started counting since sept. 8th, I don't know what can be done about it? That being said, it kinda sucks that you lose the download count when you upload a new release! Maybe it can be something like: Downloaded x times (previous releases of this project were downloaded y times). Where "y" would be the total for all old releases.
I like the tag cloud too but I think it's a bit much to see every single tag used - some only used once. So I was thinking - show the most popular by default and add an option - "Show all tags"
I agree about the tag cloud and the blank projects as well.
I am also wondered what is the use of having pages started by people on the Wiki that currently contain nothing?! It would be great if the admin's had the ability to do some clean up on in the Wiki section.
Extra Forum Admin Functionality Suggestions
1) Delete pages that have never had any content 2) Move pages to create a more organised structure
It seems that these suggestions (I've seen some before) are falling on deaf ears some of the time.
Might I suggest (with the risk that nobody sees this ;)) that our.umbraco start using something like UserVoice, so that we have a simple overview of all of the requests, the core team can reject requests, we all get to vote, everybody wins!
Bumping up an old topic. (Was going to start a new topic, but found Jesper's one)
The date on the Downloads "(since September 8th 2009)" is becoming more and more irrelevant. I know why it was introduced, but it's no longer needed IMHO.
Maybe the tag cloud could be enhanced with a jQuery slider? 2 handles; min/max, default the min to 2 (as in it's been used more than once - to qualify it as a "tag"). Then the visitor can use the slider to increase/decrease the number of tags they see. (See the Slider range demo on jQuery UI)
Suggestions to our.umbraco project area
Here's a few thoughts:
Make the tag cloud less busy.
