A quick way of solving this (if your Grid editor allows macros) is to create a Gallery macro. The best about that is that there´s already a snippet for a Gallery that you can use:
Create a new macro partial "Gallery" and choose snippet "Gallery", and remember to tick the box "Create macro".
Go to the macro and tick the box "Use in rich text editor and the grid, and go to tab "Parameter". Add a new parameter with alias "mediaIds" and Type "Multiple Media Picker".
Now, in your grid, Insert a macro and select the Gallery macro, then you can select the images from your Media section:
Its not a Custom ediotor, but another way of solving it. Hope that it helps. Have a great day!
