you might be able set main article node id in macro and then pick three from children nodes ...
I am not sure how to make it random pick though...
may be something like this ... count number of articles and then generate three random numbers below the count and in loop through children nodes pick article come up on each random number you generated

node Id in properties tab on your main article page for example on my start kit download it has blog node
If you are new to umbraco best thing is install a start kit option and see how a basic site set up...
Is there any option to load the macro using document type name instead of nodeId. To the load the macro dynamically in other page templates
