I try to implement something similar to Episerver's Personalized Content in Umbracos RTE. I might have found a workaround using Macros.
I create different macros for each visitor group (in my case student and parent). When inserting one of the macros into an RTE, the editor is asked to type a text (the content) which is passed as a Macro Parameter. The Partial View Macro File then fetches the value of this parameter and shows the correct text in the RTE (see image below).
All this works quite nicely, but as you can see from the image it is impossible to distinguish both macros from each other without looking at the content.
Therefore, I wonder if it is possible to make those two macros more unique by:
Showing macro alias and rendering the content. The macro properties in the back office only allow one at a time
Changing the color of the dotted border depending on the type of macro
I am also very open for alternative solutions to my problem!
And that been said, then you can see that in Umbraco version 8 https://our.umbraco.org/contribute/roadmap/ you will have variants and segments but for now I would recommend you to look at the personalisation-groups package by Andy Butland.
Thank you for your prompt answer! Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like it is not possible to personalize sections of text within a rich text editor using the Personalisation Groups-package?
Maybe I should just wait till the release of Umbraco v8!
I must admit that I don´t have a lot info yet how the variants and segments will be in Umbraco 8, but I am sure that we will share more info about it on our different platforms when we have something new to tell about this stuff.
Personalized Content in RTE
Hi everyone,

Hi Markus and welcome to our.
For personalized content in Umbraco CMS, it would recommend you to have a look at this package below to see if this could be a solution for you?

And that been said, then you can see that in Umbraco version 8 https://our.umbraco.org/contribute/roadmap/ you will have variants and segments but for now I would recommend you to look at the personalisation-groups package by Andy Butland.
Hope this helps,

Hi Markus,
I don´t know if it´s possible to use https://our.umbraco.org/projects/website-utilities/personalisation-groups/ in the RTE, so the best for you will be to ask the creator of this package you can do it here. https://our.umbraco.org/projects/website-utilities/personalisation-groups/issues-and-feedback/
I must admit that I don´t have a lot info yet how the variants and segments will be in Umbraco 8, but I am sure that we will share more info about it on our different platforms when we have something new to tell about this stuff.

Thank you for your help, Dennis. I will check it out!
Looking forward to more info about variants and segments in the future!
