I have created the document type with its content type within it, I have then later on renamed a content type alias, but then about 10 or 15 minutes later it has reappeared as the old alias name!
I am using Umbraco 4.7.0 (Assembly version: 1.0.4090.38017)
Many thanks for your suggestions but unfortunently it didnt work, i deleted the field from the "cmsPropertyType" table and then re-published. Then when going to view the page in the editor the field then came back!

Did you rename it in the database? If you do you probably need to change it in the umbracoNode and cmsContentType table.

Have you tried to republish the entire site after renaming?
