This topic is the same question as in this issue: http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-5103, but that feature won't be available until Umbraco 7.2.0 is out which will probably take a while. What would be the best way to do this in 7.1.4?
"An event that get's fired right before the backoffice node is opened is a really flexible way to change the start node. If you want to use an xpath for it you can do that, but also with linq or check for a propery on the current node like DAMP does. You can also store the start node in a custom table if you want to so the code to search for the start node doesn't have to run every time."
Should I copy the source of the media picker property editor and change that so an event will be fired or does someone know a better alternative? When 7.2.0 is out I would like to switch to that feature.
