404 error on all pages except root

    Hi there,

I am trying to get my Umbraco site running on my testing server, I copeid all the filea crros, created the IIS Application. The home page loads 100% but as soon as navigate to any other pages (e.g /about/, etc) I get a 404.0.

The /umbraco admin section is working fine as well and I can add and edit content fine but the added content also return 404.0.

It seems like the URL routes are not being registered. I made sure all the DLL's are loaded and check all the logs (umbraco, FaileReqLogs, IIS, Event) but there is nothing of value.

    Any suggestions?

Have you done a Republish Entire Site (a button on the root content node) - sometimes on moving sites the cache gets corrupt.

Ahhh - just noticed you've mentioned an IIS Application. How have you got Umbraco installed in IIS (and what version of IIS?) - is it the default site or have you got it as an virtual directory / application?  Have a read through of these notes http://our.umbraco.org/documentation/installation/install-umbraco-manually as it sounds like Umbraco is not getting the requests.

    Hey Steve,

Thanks I did go through the manual installation guide and made sure all my permission are correct. Still no luck.

I will do a clean installation on the stage server and see if I can replicate the results. If the problem does not persists then I will try and migrate my data accross..

OK, so I managed to get somewhere.

One thing I failed to mention (sorry about that) is that on my local dev machine I was running the site on it's own domain (site.localtest.me) on the test server it was set up as an application in a sub directory.

Once I created the site on the test server in its ownn domain the routing worked fine.

So it seems once you have created your umbraco site you cannot move it from root to a sub directory and I assume neither vice versa.

Thank you so much for your help Steve!
