    Fanoe Starter Kit Repository

Hi everybody, I'm starting using umbraco and I'd like use the Fanoe Starter Kit on a new empty projec. First of all, can I aready use the Fanoe Starter Kit Template and customize it? Or...what I need is all the stuff, buttons for fast customization...exactly what the starter kit includes. But I was not able to find it in the umbraco backoffice repository. I don't know if is already possible use the fanoe template just like it is...and if is free of use and customize!!! Amazing job Umbraco...thanks a lot!

Please, help me to make my first steps!

    Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe, and welcome to our.

I dont´ see any problems that you are using the Fanoe Starter Kit template and customize it so it match your needs, The starter kits is there so you can learn how Umbraco CMS works, and I good way on doing this is by looking at the starter kit and try to change things in there. So to answer your question about if you could use the Fanoe Starter Kit Template and customize it, I think that you are allowed to do this (Please correct me if I am wrong here)

The Umbraco installation contains 3 different starter kit, the Fanoe starter kit, Txt starter kit and the Overflow starter kit, I don´t thik these are available in the package repository, but in Umbraco under the developer section --> pacakges you can install a new starter kit,

And as I said in the start I think that the starter kits are free to use and customize. Since you are new to Umbraco I think that it would be nice to know where you can find some good starting stuff. One place to find some basic stuff about Umbraco is on the forum, and here you can find some written documentation about create a site in Umbraco.http://our.umbraco.org/documentation/Using-Umbraco/Creating-Basic-Site/

Other good resources to know is the Umbraco TV. Umbraco TV is some videos tutorials that shows the basic concepts of working with Umbraco. http://umbraco.tv/videos/umbraco-v7/content-editor/ and http://umbraco.tv/videos/umbraco-v7/implementor/ Some of the video is free to watch, and some requires that you subscribe to Umbraco TV, you can find the prices here. http://umbraco.tv/plans-signup/

The one of the milestone in Umbraco is the concepts that they call Document Types. On the document type you defines which page fields that there should be available for the user to type information in. You can find the document type chapter here.http://umbraco.tv/videos/umbraco-v7/implementor/fundamentals/document-types/

The last method that I also think could be a good approach to learn Umbraco is by having to Umbraco installtion, one with a starter kit pre-installed like the Fanoe Starter Kit, and other Umbraco install that is empty. Then you can start build up your website, from scratch, and everytime that you have
any doubts about how you can do things then you can see how it done in the starter kit, if they have the feature that you are looking for.

It was by this approach that I learned Umbraco myself, with the combination of Umbraco TV, and the Umbraco community

    Hope this helps,

    Happy Umbraco coding.

    /Dennis

As your screenshot shows the FANOE starter kit can't be found under "install starter kit." Where can we find it?

    Hi Henning,

I thought it was because it was the starter kit that I had installed in my Umbraco installation. But it is not the case, I will create a issue in the issue tracker and linked to issue when its created.

    Hi Henning,

I asked Sebastiaan if there were a place where you can find the Fanoe Starter Kit as a package, if you don´t installed the first time you set up your Umbraco installation, and he said not at the moment.

    Hi Biagio,

Try to see Jan´s comment here, http://our.umbraco.org/forum/umbraco-7/developing-umbraco-7-packages/59990-How-to-create-a-package-or-starter-kit-into-U7?p=0#comment203264 on how to create an package that you will be able to install on a other Umbraco installation.

Or perhaps, you could get some information on how to make a starter kit like the Txt stater kit, by look at the Umbraco GitHub repository for the starter kits that the Umbraco installation has included https://github.com/umbraco/Starterkits

    Hope this helps,

    /Dennis

    Hi Guys

I had trouble with finding the starter kit too, but found a solution. I have WebMatrix installed and now the new Umbraco 7.2 from here

    http://our.umbraco.org/contribute/releases/720

So what I do is extract the files from the 7.2 download into a folder. Then right click on that folder and "Open as a Web Site with Microsoft Web Matrix" . When Web Matrix opens, Run (pick your browser here if you like). Umbraco will start to load up, fill in the form, Install will install the new Fanoe project.

    Hope this helps.

    Happy Christmas

    Tony
