If you wanted to, limit the access to www.mydomainname.com/umbraco you could limit the umbraco folder to a range of specific ip addresses. Then you need to have one of the ip addresses to be able to vistit www.mydomainname.com/umbraco take a look here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730889.aspx
I must add that I don't know if it has become easier to change with the release of 7 but in 4 and 6 it's not worth the time.
Only reason we REALLY needed to do it when making the calendar is that we could of course not use /umbraco as a page name, which we are, if we did not do it and then the whole concept would not make much sense.
You can of course experiment with the links Dennis provided above but just be aware that it might just be the tip of the iceberg and there could be a lot of other stuff you would need to take into account as well.
How can I change the url in which I login to Umbraco ?
At the moment I login to our Umbraco back office using www.mydomainname.com/umbraco
Is it possibe to change the Url to something like admin.mydomainname.com ? If so where do I make this change ?
Also, if I wanted to, how would I disable any access to www.mydomainname.com/umbraco ?
Hi Tommo1977,
If you wanted to, limit the access to www.mydomainname.com/umbraco you could limit the umbraco folder to a range of specific ip addresses. Then you need to have one of the ip addresses to be able to vistit www.mydomainname.com/umbraco take a look here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730889.aspx
Another way that could solve the thing where you want to change URL to the Umbraco backoffice to something like admin.mydomainname.com you could add a redirect rule in your IIS try to see this video about adding redirect rules in the IIS, http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/url-rewrite-module/url-rewrite-module-video-walkthrough
Hope this helps,
/Dennis
Hi Tommo1977
I think you should read Chriztians article in our "24 days in Umbraco" from 2012 about how we made the site here http://24days.in/umbraco/2012/wrapping-up/
In short: Don't do it unless you really have to
I must add that I don't know if it has become easier to change with the release of 7 but in 4 and 6 it's not worth the time.

Just my 2 cents.
