Large cmsPreviewXml. A way to set number of document versions

Is there a standard way to keep the cmsPreviewXml to a manageble size.
Im thinking some config setting to set the number of document versions to be saved?

I have a 7.1.6 site where cmsPreviewXml is around 350mb...

    Hi Claus,

Don´t know if there any way that you can set the number of document versions to be saved, in Umbraco it self, perhaps you could use the F.A.L.M. Housekeeping package for this job http://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/falm-housekeeping

Hope this could be a solution for you.

Yeah, thats a great package. Unfortunately the amount of nodes and versions causes a timeout with the database... No matter how i narrow versions or date...

    Hi Claus,

Okay perhaps you can use the stored procedure in this thread http://our.umbraco.org/forum/core/general/39105-Version-history-in-umbraco-6, maybe it also will work on Umbraco 7.

After this if this is a success, then you could try to see if you can install the F.A.L.M. Housekeeping package with success too.

Do you have a lot of members / media? In theory the cmsPreviewXml table shouldn't grow to an unmanaged size as it only contains one item per published node (although that includes documents, media and members).

We also have a site that is currently running on 7.1.8 and it has similar sized tables, we are about to upgrade it to 7.4.3

Does the cmsPreviewXml table get cleaned out by Umbraco?

Also I just wondered if anyone has run the script mentioned by Dennis as it looks good, but I don't know if it's still valid in V7+

    Cheers, Chris

    Hi Chris,

The version 7.0.0.1 should be valid for Umbraco v7+

    https://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/falm-housekeeping/

    Version History

    • v7.0.0.1 - For Umbraco v7+
    • v6.1.3.0 - For Umbraco v6 to v7.2
    • v4.11.0.2 - For Umbraco v4.8 to v4.11
    • v4.5.0.1 - For Umbraco v4.5 to v4.7.2
    • v1.1.0.0 - For Umbraco v3 to v4.0

    Hope this helps,

    /Dennis
