We just started exploring Umbraco as CMS for a project and are looking to use one Umbraco instance for customizations and content development and another for production. For this purpose we need to be able to export (selective) content from the DEV instance and import it into the production one.
Is there a built in functionality that we can use or should we look into packages/plugins like Courier etc. to achieve this.
Some guidance here will be helpful as we are brand new to Umbraco.
In comparison we have experience with Wordpress and there this problem is solved quite well (at least from our point of view:)).
There is no built in functionality in Umbraco that you can use, so Courier is a option to achieve this, as you say.
Another package that I just have discovered is th Umport package, http://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/umport, but this is not for content, but only templates, document types and so on. I have not tested the package myself yet, but we are working on a project at my work where we planning touseit.
Export/Import content between instances
