If I plunge into Umbraco world for my projects.... coming from an NON Microsoft programming background.... should I firt deeply learn ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, or can I just directly focus on learning all there is to learn about Umbraco ?
Another question: lots is going on on ASP.NET with Vnext.... how will the transition be handled by Umbraco. Will you embrace the new changes, what will we have to do to update to new umbraco version supporting Vnext.... are these umbraco update usually difficult ?
In regards to learning Umbraco you should be able to just focus on everything that there is to know about Umbraco but understanding asp.net and mvc etc. in general will be beneficial I think.
And of course it's a good idea to have a look at the documentation here https://our.umbraco.org/documentation and another useful ressource is the annual advent calendar at 24days.in/umbraco
Umbraco gives you a gentle introduction into MVC. You just have to learn C# and Razor and not worry about the structure too much. If your intent is to learn programming then I would recommend Umbraco.
2 general questions about Umbraco

Hi Brakkar
In regards to Umbraco and asp.net vnext there are plans of supporting it - It might be a good idea to have a look at the keynote video from CG14 where it's mentioned - Can't remember the timestamp though http://stream.umbraco.org/video/9918428/umbraco-codegarden-14-keynote
Simone is summing up some of the headlines from CG14 in this blogpost as well where there is a short note about the plans for asp.net vnext and Umbraco http://codeclimber.net.nz/archive/2014/06/20/My-review-of-Umbraco-Codegarden-2014ndash-One-word-amazing.aspx

So I suggest you have a look at the http://asp.net website and then of course http://umbraco.tv - And perhaps it's even also worthwhile becoming level 1 and 2 certified - You can learn more about that here http://umbraco.com/products/training
And of course it's a good idea to have a look at the documentation here https://our.umbraco.org/documentation and another useful ressource is the annual advent calendar at 24days.in/umbraco
Hope this helps a bit.
