I'm wondering whether there's any existing solution to be able to pick multiples of both content and media nodes? The content picker seems to let you cross over into media, but the multinode tree picker forces you to choose between the two, and the related links option only makes content available.
It seems at this point the only straight forward soltuion would be to use both a multinode tree picker for content, and a multiple media picker?
Yes, the nuPickers package has pickers that can be used with custom data sources - at a guess the Lucene or SQL pickers might be the easiest way to select Content & Media options.

What do you need at the front end of the site?
If it is just a URL to the document then the RJP multiurl picker is pretty useful and allows you to add more than one media and content.
