Amending Umbraco implementation after adding content

    Hi,

If we publish a site and allow editors to add content what would happen if we decide to make changes / add functionality at the next version. What is the best practice way to then merge these changes with the existing version without overwriting anything?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Damon,

I think what you are look for is Umbraco Courier https://our.umbraco.org/projects/umbraco-pro/umbraco-courier-2/

Umbraco Courier 2 redefines the Umbraco deployment process giving you the power to deploy your website changes using only a right click.

Courier 2 compares and transfers your content, document types, templates, media, media types, macros, CSS, images, and scripts.

    Hope this helps,

    /Dennis

    Hi, thanks for that.

When I deploy though, and there is content on the live version. What will happen if some of the fields in the development document type have changed? Will the content still be there after deployment? What is the case here?

How do you make sure you do not inadvertently overwrite content?

    Thanks.

    Hi Damon,

We have two different editions of Courier. One Express edition for 99€ and a full edition to 449€

In the express edition you will get the right click feature, so you can right click on a document type and transfer it.

In the full edition for 449€ you will get the option to make revisions and pick which items to transfer, document types, template stylesheets, so on. So if you don´t want to overwrite content then you simply don´t transfer this.

If you change a property on a document type, then the content in the field will be lost.

You can read more and watch a video about the Courier product here. http://umbraco.com/products-and-support/courier/

    Hope this helps,

    /Dennis
