For the most part Umbraco is fairly intuitive and quick to pick up, however I found that doing the Umbraco training courses (Level 1 and then Level 2) exceptionally helpful in cementing my understanding of the fundamentals.
If you can, consider those as options as well as they aren't overly expensive and you will get to meet others in similar situations as you.
