For this kind of information, always use the documentation on Our - it will be more accurate for developers in determining what can and can't be done.
Also, make sure you reference the documentation for the version of Umbraco that you are using - for example, on the Hosting page, you can toggle between Umbraco 7, 8, and 9 - there can be significant differences between the versions and their requirements.
As far as hosting providers go, most providers that support the Microsoft platform will be sufficient for Umbraco, while Umbraco 9 will also be supported on linux platforms (although the database should still be SQL Server).
In addition, we tried Linux App Service on Azure, but ran into weird issues.
Ending up in container not coming up any more to serve the site - for whatever reason.
So we went back to Windows App Service plan and had no issues.
Afaik hosting on Linux is not officially supported.
So if anyone has a success story here, I'd really appreciate to hear about it.
Umbraco 9 hosting requirements
Hey everyone
The hosting requirements on this site for Umbraco 9 differ from the requirements in the documentation.
Now I'm not sure what web hoster I can use for my project.
Which requirements are right?
Joe

Hope this helps...
