Is there any possibility for MySql/MariaDB support?

I'm just curious if there might be any plans for Umbraco 9 to support MariaDB (or anything that isn't Microsoft SQL Server)? I think it could be really useful!

We're looking into options for a future version of Umbraco, but for the moment we support SQL Server only. We'll make some noise when new database options become available but it will be a while yet (at least a few months).

Has there been any update on this? My company would love to use Umbraco, but a MS SQL Server license is pretty pricey.

We're currently actively working on SqlLite support and we expect to finish the work in the next few weeks. As promised we'll make noise about that. :)

Any update on this? I use Cloudways as my main host for customer websites, Umbraco locking me into Microsoft SQL Server means I can't use it for any of my Clients. I'd love to be able to offer Umbraco sites, but being limited to only licensed, expensive, Microsoft only software means I can't.

@Conor We've support SQLite since v10 and Umbraco runs on Linux just fine.
