The Umbraco is my favorite content management system, because you can configure, so it suits your clients needs. It´s comes with some starter kits, but if you don´t install this, Umbraco is just a empty shell.
You need to built up the backend, so it suits your clients needs it´s means that you need to create the fields, for each page that the user should be able to edit, and add data to.
The good with Umbraco is that you as I said that your are build up the backend, so it only contains, the fields that it needs for the type of a page. You don´t get the redundantfields or fields that not is for the page that you are editing.
If you want to learn Umbraco I can absolutely recommend you to take a look at these videos http://umbraco.tv/videos/umbraco-v7/implementor/, they are showing the basic concepts of Umbraco, some of them are free to watch, and some needs that you are subscribe to the Umbraco TV.
I think I can be diffcult to compare Umbraco, with other CMS platforms that have some standard features out of the box, because that you are building your Umbraco solution, so it meets your customers needs. In other words, there are no Umbraco installation there are similar to each other.
