Accidental special character in template alias error

Please note, first, that I am a novice in Umbraco and have about 3 weeks under my belt.

I see now that special characters and spaces are not supposed to be used in aliases, and that our prevention setting is actually on, but I attempted to change a template's alias to have an asterisk on the end. It immediately prompted me that it would not save, and caused a server error page to show up. In attempt to fix it, I deleted the template.

Now when I navigate to Settings > Templates, no templates are showing up. I can see the folder, but when I click it, the downward caret disappears and no items show below.

I am running on Umbraco 4.7.1. Where do I even go to access whatever is causing the issues? I have admin access, but will probably not be able to access the files directly via ftp.

    Any ideas?

Hi Jaime and welcome to our :)

Do you see any kind of error messages? Do you have access to the database and if so are you able to have a look at the umbracoLog table in order to see if it reveals an error message.

I suspect you will need to fix the issue in the database by running a query. It's been a while since I've seen an issue like this so i might need to google a bit to see if there are any SQL scripts that can help.

But if you can access the /masterpages directory try and look for the template and see if it still exists on the file system - If it does then try deleting it and see if it helps.

    /Jan

Thanks, Jan. That sounds like a simple solution, but I don't think I have access to the database, plus I have zero experience with SQL. I just didn't know if there was any way to access any part of the backend through my Umbraco login, or even if I could pull credentials from somewhere in Umbraco to access the raw files.

It's a bummer because anyone that could potentiall help me in-office is out for the holidays. Guess I'll just have to wait.
