    Pricing

Great news that UaaS has finally shipped. I am a little confused about the pricing though.

Beyond "Agency" and "Support Plan" will there be anything else? What's an agency with multiple clients to do - establish an agency account for each one? Not a big deal for larger clients, but I can see smaller clients finding the price a bit step. For a client (who does not appreciate all the awesomeness of umbraco) the pricing reference point will probably be closer to that of the .com hosted version of WP.

I understand that hosting multiple clients sites in a single umbraco instance is technically possible, but perhaps not a great option for portability, etc.

HQ - is there more to come?

    thanks

UaaS isn't for everyone and it's a very different product than for instance wp .com which is "just" hosting.

We're working on some cost calculation tools that takes in productivity enhancements into account and there might come a slightly cheaper plan with only one environment, but it'll still be nowhere near the wp hosting prices or the pricing you get at a budget host.

So for the price driven projects where the productivity tools and the managed Umbraco parts of UaaS isn't relevant, a budget host is probably a better option.

(and as far as putting multiple project into one Umbraco... as you say, it would totally defeat the purpose and value you'd otherwise get with UaaS).

I'd typically see Agencies using "UAAS" as a platform for the building the site, and then shifting to a cheaper "hosting" environment, once the main functionality is in place. Keeping a site dorment on UAAS simply isnt cost effecient (for most)

IMHO - Unless you are doing continual updates to a site, or have the need for a "base project" to update multi sites, then UAAS simply isnt worth it.

It's a shame that Umbraco is pushing the "UAAS" on the homepage, when really, this product is only really suitable for the few.

Maybe some "clarity" would help people choose which Umbraco product is right for them.

@Paul What you describe - agencies typically only using UaaS for dev - isn't a pattern we can recognise. That being said we have some great news at CodeGarden in regards to project structures and pricing.

Like Tesla having to make an expensive Roadster and Model S before they could make the car for the masses, we've had the same challenges (we just didn't knew). There's a lot of expensive R&D as well as building a company structure to support a project like this, that takes a lot of effort.

Good news is that unlike electric cars, this takes about 1/3 of the time and as mentioned, there's really great news on its way (which also means that UaaS will have even more prominent exposure on umbraco.com).
