    Contour on Multi-site setup?

We're looking at Contour to solve a need for ad-hoc forms on our Umbraco sites. But we have some questions.

We're running a multi-site umbraco setup. where we have multiple domains on the same umbraco installation. Is it possible to set up Contour in such an environment where the users of a single site can create forms that can be seen by only their site users and not show up for users of a different site?

Also, where can I get information on Licensing costs for a Server License vs individual domain licenses?

    Thanks for any help,

    Gregg Duncan

Hi Gregg, well you can fine tune form security on a form/user basis ( you can see an example in this video: http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/umbraco-pro/contour/trust-our-security.aspx )

I guess in your case you will want to automate setting some security settings this can be done by taking advantage of the event model in contour...

Hi Tim, Thanks for your reply. That's not really what we were hoping for from Contour. We were hoping for a setup similar to the content or media sections. Where a user could have a "start node" set in security. Then all of their forms would be kept separate from forms created by other site admins. The whole point of the CMS is to turn over maintenance to the site admins.

There probably wouldn't be that many forms required and we could for the time being handle the situation as you describe. However, would Contour even work in a multi-site environment with it's current licensing setup? If I have one installation of Umbraco handling 15 domains. Would it even be possible to get a license that allows it to work with the multiple domains? How difficult would it then be to add a new domain to the license?

Are there any plans to make Contour more usable in multi-site environments?

Thanks again and Happy New Year.

Hi Gregg, yup you can buy additional domains for your contour licenses, it' should be an option when you are on your profile on umbraco.com (and have a contour license)

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Michael,

Yes, The solution for us was Doc2Form. Contour will not work in our multi-site situation. Besides Doc2Form is free. It took me a little bit to figure out how it works ( the documentation is a bit lacking ) but once we got it figured out it works great.

If you decide to go with Doc2Form and have questions you can email me at gduncan (at) dbdnet.com.

    Cheers,

    Gregg
