I have finally managed to install Contour on Umbraco 6.1.4 and due to permissions (I guess) the lang file was not updated. Presumably it is possible to manually do this? Can anyone tell me what change is needed? I can find no reference in the manual install docs.
On the install fail screen there is a really helpful link which says:
The above errors can be resolved by consulting the install documents available on umbraco.org
It gives a 404 ;)
In my experience permissions (or lack of) is one of the most common and possibly the biggest problems with Umbraco. Obviously we could allow Modify rights to everything but that isn't really such a good idea.
Would it not make sense for package developers to test for permissions before letting the install run? This would save a lot of heartache. Perhaps Contour and Courier would be the first to implement this simple and very helpful method?
I keep banging on about this but nobody seems to be listening.
Paramaterizing the Umbraco dir would be useful too. domainname.com/umbraco/hackerswelcome is just not safe
umbraco\config\lang\en.xml not updated on install
