    Disable / Remove Field Types from Editor

    I'd like to remove some of the default field types as we aren't using them. The only other answer I've seen in the forum was over 2 years ago (http://our.umbraco.org/forum/umbraco-pro/contour/25731-DisableRemove-specific-Field-Type-options) and used jquery. Is there an official way to remove or disable field types from showing up?
