Licensing for one Umbraco instance with multiple domains
We have a client who requires a series of identical looking websites that run under different domains. We are considering using Umbraco's facility to manage multiple domains within one instance to achieve this. We are also keen to use Contour for managing forms. However, we are not sure what the licensing or pricing implications this will have for Contour when it's used with an Umbraco instance that manages multiple websites, or even if it's currently possible. The Contour licensing FAQ states:
"Can I add additional domains to the license?
Yes, we are still working on pricing and the process for doing this, but it will be an option. It is however only meant for websites which has several domains. If you wish to use Umbraco Contour on multiple websites you would need a license per site or get a server license."
So can anyone clarify whether this is currently possible? If we were to buy Contour today would it work for multiple domain licenses within one instance and could it easily be extended for each additional domain we add. Can the .lic file cope with multiple domains? Also, has the team tested Contour when used with multiple sites? Are there any issues to be aware of? Thanks in advance.
No, it's licensed per-domain, applying to the front and backend (we have a 3-site install using contour and required 3 licenses). Additional licenses can currently be bought for an additions €59 (correct as of 2 weeks ago anyhow).
It seems to check domains for licensing on both the front and backend, but we've had no problems with the fully licensed site
Thanks, dandrayne. To clarify, are you saying you are currently using one single Umbraco instance to manage 3 sites, and that this works OK (but you need to buy 3 different licenses)?
I'm working with the demo version of Umbraco and have de license next week. Can you use your demo version and enter a license number, replace a dll in the bin, ....?

Hi Dan!
It's correct and it works today. You don't need to buy a version of Contour for each domain, but just order additional domains EUR59 here:

Thanks, that's been very helpful!
