OK... so this late in the game... I bet Niels has decided to roll this out at Codegarden. I'll put money on it. That's called Business 101. It's kinda disappointing but it's a calculated decision and I respect that.
Oh and as far as the cost I think it was about $400 last time I checked. Upgrade may be a factor being if the code was greatly refactored? Interesting to see what happens.
@kevon, well you should know by now that we at the umbraco HQ ain't cynical or business savvy enough to hold back a release to gain a quick profit ;)
Courier 2 is coming, but yes it is past Q1, but on the other hand, we don't wanna release something that doesn't work or isn't stable. As lee posted, there is a beta out, and there are also nightly builds available so you can see the daily progress. at nightly.umbraco.org/umbracocourier
In regards to pricing, the full version will be 499EUR, there will be a "light" version which allows you to transfer all you want, but no API access, and no courier section to put together more complex transfers,
So it will basicly be a right-click deployment menu on all umbraco items and that will be priced at 99EUR.
@Per, I of course don't think the Umbraco HQ are cynical.... as I'm a paying customer. Since Lee's post I just haven't had time to retract my words. So for all that are following this thread...
<kevonEatingHisWords>I was wrong, didn't know there was a public beta</kevonEatingHisWords> ... long live Umbraco.
@gordon it's a per-site license so you can configure a top-level domain (which covers all subdomains as well) and can also specify 2 internal domains (like dev-server.local) So you should only need a single courier license per site.
Is there any news regarding a "release" version of Courier 2 yet? The release candidate says it'll expire on the 30th, which is getting really close...
Hmm, I've downloaded that file (http://our.umbraco.org/FileDownload?id=2495) a few times and I keep getting RC1. I've even tried using a different computer and ISP in case it was being cached somewhere. Are you able to provide a direct download link to Courier 2?
My work-mate and I are on other sides of the globe (often). He'll be working on part of the parent site, I'll work on another. We'll both have potentially several localhost umbraco test sites to work through all our ideas. Using courier to update from one to another would be handy. But ultimately each of us will want to use Courier to update the staging version of the site, and eventually update the part of the parent site that we're responsible for. We may wind up using separate Umbraco instances to keep clean separation of the sub-sites, since we'll be overriding the membership anyway.
Is that a single Courier license, or even a single Courier Express, or is that necessarily multiple licenses?
As far as I know Courier works on a domain name or sub domain name, so as long you're either using it locally or on the same server using the same domain name I think it's just one licence.
Courier also works on Sub domains, so in theory you can have
Courier 2.0
Where is the new shiny Courier 2.0 that was suppose to come at the end of 2010?
I believe Courier 2 is on its way very soon ... there was a sneak peak clip post last week: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3498919/5.swf
Happy New Year Lee. Thanks!
I don't think it was ever promised for the end of the year, that was the Juno beta, early this year is the timeline for Courier 2.0 :-)
Are you kidding me. Have you checked the umbraco.org home page in the last 3 months?
Whoops! Yes, just kidding. *goes and hides* ;)
SJ, I like your humour. and thanks for always helping me and other newbies out in the forums ;-)
Hi,
any updates on the release date? Just planning a staging environment for one of our customers and maybe it makes sense to wait a few more days ;-)
Thanks
Since the Umb HQ gave a new release date of "1st Qtr" we technically have until March 31st of this year.
Waiting patiently....
Any update on the release date for Courier 2.0? Also, will the cost be the same as 1.3?
Thank you.

A beta was released a couple of weeks ago: http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2011/3/18/courier-20-beta

@Per - how does the Courier licence work - is it 499EUR per domain, or something else?

Kevon, in case you didn't know... Courier 2 is out now!

Cheers, Lee.
Thanks Lee.
There is no mention of Courier in my package repository! It's only showing Contour. Is Courier 2 compatible with 4.5?

Hi Chris, sure Courier 2 has been out for a a few weeks now.
Read up more on the project page: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/umbraco-pro/umbraco-courier-2
Commercially there are 2 options, the full version and an express version: http://umbraco.com/products/more-add-ons/courier-2
Cheers, Lee.

Hi Chris,
Its not well advertised, but I've been using the nightlies download from here: http://nightly.umbraco.org/UmbracoCourier/2.1/
Guessing the project page will be updated soon.
Cheers, Lee.
doh! that is my mistake, I overlooked the copy in the package manifest, so it wrongly said "RC1" and mentioned a timeout.
Just to be clear, it is not the RC1 files, and there is no Timeout. I've updated the package in the repo so it has the right manifest copy

Aha! Mystery solved :)
Thanks for your help, both of you.
Further clarification request:

Hi Diane,
As far as I know Courier works on a domain name or sub domain name, so as long you're either using it locally or on the same server using the same domain name I think it's just one licence.
Courier also works on Sub domains, so in theory you can have
dev.yoursite.com
staging.yoursite.com
diane.yoursite.com
colleague.yoursite.com
I'm not 100% sure if Courier works in full locally, but if not once you have a license you can use your hosts file to run something like
local.yoursite.com
Hope that helps.
Rich
Thanks, Rich.
I found another post that suggests setting up local site naming thus:
"The license also allows your developers to have it installed on their workstations for testing if they have host header set for the following.
abcwidgets.com.local"
So I think courier should work fine for us.
Thanks!
