I work for a web development company and we are thinking of shifting from a proprietory system to Umbraco, which so far has astounded me! It is a fantastic product with endless capabilities and something I am looking forward to working with.
We are doing some initial scoping just to make sure we have everything covered and one issue that has arisen is the need for us to have a local copy of websites that we can make changes to as clients need them and then upload these changes to a live site. That is where I think courier comes in i believe.
I have a couple of questions, and please forgive me if these have been covered before:
When you publish changes with Courier i am assuming it will not overwrtite live content that is on the live website - is this correct?
What is the difference between Courier Express and the full version? There is quite a price difference and I don't think (for most sites anyways) 500 Euros per site for the full version is a viable option.
Courier will not overwrite any content, unless you specifically tell it to. I imagine as a web development company you will mostly making changes to the site structure and templates etc. not the actual content, you can tell Courier exactly what you want it to updates.
As far as the differences go it sounds like Express would be fine for your needs. The full version adds acess via the command line and access to the API for custom automated deploymeny.

Hi Kenny,
Welcome to the forum!

Glad you're enjoying Umbraco.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the reply! This is exactly the kind of information I was needing and i think the next stage will be to buy it and test it out.
I am really enjoying everything so far and the world of Umbraco seems like a pretty cool place to me!

Hey Kenny,
No problem :)
Just for info you can try Courier before you buy as it's fully functional on localhost.
