    Courier between 4.7 and 5.0

    Hello!

I have an old site running Umbraco 4.7 that I would, in the future, like to transfer to v5. Since the site has a lot of old xslt the port will not be straightforward.

The old site has ~1500 pages in different languages (recipies and products mostly) so moving them by hand is not really an option.

I am about to start work on a campaign site for the same client and are thinking of using v5 here.

Would you recommend using the campaign site as a "springboard" to move the old site over to v5?

    Thanks!
    /Hannes

    Hello Hannes,

I have read somewhere (sorry I cannot recall where) that there will be a version of courier released that will migrate document types and content trees...(the simple stuff, not the complicated stuff)....note that this could be a baseless rumour and I could be telling fibs....I am nowhere near an authority :)

My thoughts would be to wait until that is released. I have done a little research just now and cannot find anything. If anyone else has any thoughts, I'd also be glad to hear them.

    Thank you

    Hi John and Hannes

Yup, it is correct, that there will be a version of Courier, which will help you migrate contet and content types from a V4 site to V5, it will by no means be a one-click copy of your site from v4 to v5, but will save you time, moving your content and their types over.

    Thanks guys!

I am having problems with v5 (getting 404's in the settings pane... wierd) so I had to start the new site in 4.7 but this is still great confirmation :)
