I've taken a brief look into the way that variants work to create a multilingual site with ease.

My question is, does anyone know if there's capabilities of creating your own variants or hijacking the way that the language variants work to go between different options.

I've tried looking into the way that the languages are pulled into the backoffice to see if I can just change the values passed in there as I would like my "custom variant" to work in the same way as languages just with custom names/properties tied to them.
