Login Failed upgrading from v7.6.5 to v8.1

I'm trying to upgrade our site V8.1 from V7.6.5.

I've been following the guide here: https://our.umbraco.com/documentation/getting-started/setup/upgrading/migrating-to-v8

When I go to the site it redirects me to the Authorise upgrade page but when I try to login I get "Login failed for user ...."

I've seen similar topics to this but none of them have provided a solution for me. I've copied the Membership provider over from the previous web.config so it has all the eact same attributes and changed the type from "Umbraco" to "Umbraco.Web".

Have you tried clearing your local cache in your browser and trying it again?

    Owain.

Yes, I've tried clearing the cache with no joy. It's running under a different local url than the previous site.

I'd try deleting the the temp folder in App_Data too and increment the clientdependency number in the clientdependency.config in config folder too.

I also had this issue before and I think I had to upgrade the Umbraco 7 site past 7.8 before I could get it to work. Did you jump straight from 7.6 to 8.1?

    O.

Just tried clearing the deleting the temp folder and incrementing the clientdepency but still no joy.

I'm upgrading straight from 7.6.5 as the example upgrades from 7.14 so figured a later version should be supported.

I just reread that realised 7.14 was hight 7.6.5. Those pesky extra decimals. Will try upgrading to 7.14 first

Upgrading to 7.14 first did the trick. Thanks
